Five Ways Integrative Health Enhances OT and Activities of Daily Living
Integrative health are variety of holistic health care approaches that can provide healing and balance to the mind, body, and spirit.
They have formerly been known as complementary and alternative medicine. With more research providing support of its efficacy, these approaches are not alternative any longer.
The occupational therapy profession is already holistic in nature and is a natural fit to incorporate integrative health.
Occupational therapy addresses the whole person. Integrative health approaches are additional tools and techniques that an OT can become trained and skilled in to assist a person with health, wellness, prevention, and recovery.
There are a wide range of integrative health approaches.
These include, but are not limited to: yoga, tai chi, meditation, guided imagery, aromatherapy, energy healing, massage and bodywork or manual therapy.
These are just five examples of how integrative health can enhance occupational therapy practice and Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). There are many more ways.
