3 Summer Healthy Treats

We asked occupational therapists what are some of their favorite summer “healthier” treats. This is what three OTs said:

  1. “I’m a smoothie fanatic in the summer. I like them for breakfast. I don’t use recipes, but an easy smoothie for me is something like this (all measurements are approximations).”
    – Carrie Ann Strub, OTR/L

1 cup ripe mango or pineapple chunks (for sweetness)
1 cups mixed frozen berries
2-3 large handfuls power greens (spinach, kale, chard, beet greens)
half or whole avocado
enough cold water to make it blend-able

2. “Banana ice cream…place frozen banana in a food processor with a splash of almond milk. Blend until it’s smooth. Top with a swirl of peanut butter & tablespoon of granola. YUM!”
– Jill Garaffa, OTR/L

3. “I’m a big fan of the TCM viewpoint of drinking warm or room temperature water instead of iced drinks in the summer. My favorite drink is a few sprigs of AppleMint leaves in my diffuser pitcher. I use fresh fruits in season or cucumbers in my water. I sometimes allow my water to soak up the sun and become energized by the rays of light (per Anthony William’s Healing Foods book.) Then I whisper words of love into the water before drinking, so my cells pick up the vibrational patterns of love, peace, etc. (See Dr Emoto’s experiments with water crystals.) I have a reminder on my water bottle to whisper healing words into the water before I drink it.”
– Deanna Dibert Waggy, OTR
